The UWB Ethics Committee oversees the observance of standards of ethical conduct laid down in the Code of Conduct of the University of West Bohemia. The principles contained in the Code of Conduct apply to all UWB staff and students.

The Code of Conduct includes:

• general standards of interpersonal relationships on the university premises
• the standards of staff behavior towards students
• the standards related to students' behavior towards each another during their studies
• the standards of conduct in research at the university

UWB upholds academic freedom and rights and actively supports members of the academic community in their application. At the same time, the university makes sure that this freedom and these rights are exercised in line with the ethical standards set down in its Code of Conduct.

If you are a student and feel that someone's behavior towards you is unethical or you have witnessed such behavior, please contact the head of the faculty at which you are studying (the Dean or Vice-Dean for Study Affairs). If for some reason you do not consider this option suitable, please contact the Ethics Committee directly.

Upon receipt of a complaint about unethical conduct, the Ethics Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Committee") proceeds as follows:

• The Committee assesses the complaint and if necessary asks the person who submitted it for further information, statements, documents, etc.
• If necessary, the Committee acquires further information about the case (statements by witnesses or other people involved, additional documents).
• If necessary, the Committee keeps the identity of the complaining party, witnesses and other persons involved confidential.
• When discussing specific cases, other members (experts in a particular area) can be called to join the Committee.
• Following an assessment of all relevant aspects of the case, the Committee issues its decision on the matter. The decision may include a recommendation for further measures addressed to the appropriate managerial staff.
